The ninth novel in The Dresden Files, White Night , sees Harry investigating a series of crimes in the magical community and stumbling onto something that not only implicates him but those closest to him. How will Harry get out of this one? We begin with Murphy calling Harry to consult on an apparent suicide. Harry told her to stay behind and practice, but Molly got bored. Murphy threatens Molly with arrest until Molly apologizes and Harry tells her she still needs to worry about the consequences of her actions. They visit Butters who remarks on some suicides that have come into the morgue. Harry has Molly use her Sight on the dead body and her experience is far from gruesome. Instead, she experiences intense ecstasy. Harry asks Mac for help and gets pointed in the direction of the Ordo Lebes and their leader, Anna Ash, a group of magic practitioners, not powerful enough to be full wizards. Seems the war is still in full swing. Harry learns that 20 people have gone missing from the supernatural community, some seen in the company of a tall man in a grey cloak. Others were seen in the company of a beautiful, dark-haired man with pale skin. Shaken, Harry takes the El home and calls Thomas to no avail. Then Harry stumbles into the second bedroom where there are semi-automatic weapons and pictures of all the dead women. Before Harry can properly react, the police are at the front door. Back at his place he has a little chat with Lasciel now called Lash. Harry makes a reference to Lasciel helping him out with the ghouls in New Mexico at the Warden Camp since Lasciel actually could speak ancient Sumerian. Lash helps Harry with his guitar playing, which leads Harry to question...

Create Spoiler Tags With: You should read The Dresden Files imgur. These descriptions make it sound as such. It sounds like a cross between the TV shows Gotham and Grimm. It's the most derivative thing I've ever read. Butcher made it such on purpose. It's by and large a hallmark of the UF genre. Are cliched and good mutually exclusive for you? I don't mean to imply that they are, but I do know what I like and don't like, so I was trying get more opinions and insights with my questions. I don't want to pass judgment on their quality, that is for each reader to decide. Though I'd recommend trying the first 4 before making a decision. I think 4 is where Butcher really catches his stride. If you don't like it by then, you probably wont ever like it. They are quick reads. If you don't like the first, skip to number three, even if you;re only part of the way through. Book three is where Butcher really figures it out, and that book has massive consequences for the rest of the series, some of which we still don't understand 12 books later. If you like it then, you probably wont have a problem going back to read one and two. I'm not normally a fan of urban fantasy, or urban anything really, but The Dresden Files is one of my favorite series ever. The surface is absolutely straightforward urban fantasy, made up of all the classic tropes. But a they're just good. I like the innovative stuff too, but there's nothing wrong with some classic good vs evil, wisecracking hero books as well. And b they get deeper and more mature as you go along. Butcher is definitely one of those authors who was still learning...

The books of The Dresden Files have many, many tropes. These are tropes A through M. You can find tropes N through Z here. Please make sure spoilers are properly tagged. The series has a lot of them, so try not to ruin everyone else's fun. The Swords of the Cross are able to go through just about anything. Amoracchius , for example, can go clean through a steel fire door and kill the man on the other side without any real effort on Michael's part. The RPG says they can take advantage of any Weaksauce Weakness the target may have so long as they're "on the clock. Swords wielded by the Wardens are enchanted on several levels, including, apparently, being able to cut through anything. On at least one occasion, one cuts through a whole tree with little effort. In the RPG book, this is represented as an option to make it hit for Weapon: For comparison's sake, the swords are normally Weapon: Lord Raith is at the top end of this scale. He eventually kills his sons, and he rapes his daughters into servitude using his powers as an Incubus. When his eldest daughter discovers that his powers no longer work it goes Justin also counts, being Harry and Elaine's adoptive dad. Harry mentions that his training to create a magical shield started with baseballs being thrown at him. Later on Justin attempts to mentally enslave both Elaine and Harry. In the short story "The Warrior": There's a girl who was being beaten by her father. The Diving Save that Dresden does when she is in the way of an incoming car inadvertently alerts her mother to that fact. The girl is used as an example in the ending's You Are Better Than You Think You Are speech...
